PSA Nitrogen Generator Operating Procedure

The PSA nitrogen generator operates based on the pressure swing adsorption technology, utilizing the difference in the adsorption capacity of carbon molecular sieves for oxygen and nitrogen to achieve efficient separation and produce nitrogen. It is widely used in various fields such as food packaging, chemical production, and electronic manufacturing. A standardized and detailed PSA nitrogen generator operating procedure is not only crucial for ensuring the stable operation of the equipment and producing qualified nitrogen, but also essential for improving production efficiency and reducing energy consumption. The following will elaborate on the PSA nitrogen generator operating procedure from aspects such as pre-operation preparation, operation management, shutdown handling, and maintenance.

1. Pre-operation Preparation
First, conduct a comprehensive inspection of the equipment’s appearance, checking for any damage or deformation of the adsorption towers, pipelines, valves, etc., and ensuring that the bolts at all connection points are securely fastened to prevent leakage during operation. In terms of the electrical system, use a multimeter to test the power supply voltage to ensure it matches the equipment’s rated voltage (typically 380V ± 10%), and also check for any damage or aging of the wires and cables, and ensure that the PLC controller, relays, etc. in the control box are securely wired without any looseness or oxidation.
The air treatment in the raw material is of vital importance. After the air compressor boosts the air pressure to 0.5 – 0.1 MPa, it is successively processed through high-efficiency filters, refrigeration dryers, and precision filters. Check the pressure difference gauge of the high-efficiency filter. When the pressure difference exceeds 0.05 MPa, replace the filter element promptly;

II. Equipment Startup and Operation
Correct operation procedure for PSA air purifier
1. First, turn on the power of the dry air machine. The dry air machine starts running and performs pre-cooling.
2. Regularly check the air compressor, air-water separator, and the drainage valve of the dry air machine. Check the discharge valves of the two gas storage tanks and perform regular drainage.
3. Regularly start the machine to maintain the system pressure. This ensures that the nitrogen purifier system, especially the adsorption tower, is filled with high-pressure, pure, and dry air, preventing outside air from entering the machine and affecting the performance of the molecular sieve.
4. The filter should be cleaned and maintained according to the filter usage manual on a regular basis. The pressure regulating valve should be inspected and repaired once a year, and the safety valve must be calibrated by the relevant department regularly.

III. Equipment Shutdown Operation
When it is necessary to shut down the equipment, first close the air inlet valve to stop the raw air from entering. Use the control system to reduce the equipment operating load to the minimum, maintain operation for 3 – 5 minutes to stabilize the pressure in the adsorption tower, then turn off the nitrogen purifier power supply. Next, close the nitrogen outlet valve to prevent nitrogen backflow. Slowly open the vent valve to reduce the internal pressure of the equipment to normal pressure. The pressure relief speed should be controlled at around 0.05 MPa/min to avoid damage to the equipment due to rapid pressure relief.

IV. Daily Maintenance and Care
Daily maintenance and care are an important part of ensuring the long-term stable operation of the PSA nitrogen purifier. The filter element of the air filter should be checked once a week. If the usage environment has a lot of dust, the inspection cycle should be shortened. When the surface of the filter element becomes obviously dirty or there is blockage, it should be replaced in time.

Monthly check the adsorption tower. Open the manhole to observe the state of the carbon molecular sieve. If the carbon molecular sieve is severely powdered and the height has dropped by more than 5%, it should be replenished or replaced in time. Regularly inspect the pipeline connection parts with soapy water for leaks. If bubbles are found, tighten the sealing parts in time; check the flexibility of each valve to prevent sticking. At the same time, conduct a comprehensive inspection of the control system once a quarter, clean the dust in the control box, check if the PLC program is running normally, and ensure the reliable automatic control function of the equipment.

A standardized operation procedure for the PSA nitrogen purifier covers all aspects from preparation to maintenance. It is necessary to strictly follow the procedure to ensure the efficient operation and stable production of qualified nitrogen gas, providing a solid guarantee for enterprise production.
